Descubren 206 aplicaciones de Android infectadas

Mucho cuidado con lo que te descargas de las tiendas de aplicaciones, sobre todo si tienen un nivel de seguridad algo inferior, como la de Google Play, ya que, en algunas ocasiones, como esta que te contamos, las aplicaciones alojadas pueden estar infectadas por malware que, prácticamente, inutilicen tu teléfono móvil.

Esto es lo que han descubierto los investigadores de la compañía CheckPoint: 206 aplicaciones que tenían más de medio millón de descargas en muchos casos y cuyo código había sido infectado para introducir malware en tu teléfono móvil. De este modo, y aunque la aplicación instalada estuviera cerrada, podían seguir apareciendo pantallas de publicidad molestas.

Además, estas aplicaciones también tenían la capacidad de hacer que un navegador abriera una URL elegida por el atacante y lo llevara a una web de phishing; es decir, que imitara una web real para, por ejemplo, introducir los datos. Al ser una web falsa, los datos acababan en manos de los ciberdelincuentes.

También podían obligar al sistema a abrir aplicaciones de Google Play mediante la búsqueda de palabras clave específicas. De este modo, esas aplicaciones ganaban visualizaciones y, a medio plazo, nuevas descargas.

Todas estas aplicaciones infectadas utilizaban un software denominado RXDrioder y todas ellas han sido denominadas por CheckPoint como 'SimBad', debido al alto número de aplicaciones que estaban afectadas y a que la mayoría de ellas eran simuladores de juegos. Para hacerse una idea del tamaño que habían adquirido dentro del ecosistema de Google Play, un dato: las 14 primeras aplicaciones de este tipo habían sido descargadas 75 millones de veces, teniendo la primera 10 millones de instalaciones y las 13 siguientes cinco millones cada una.

Discover 206 infected Android applications

Be careful with what you download from app stores, especially if they have a somewhat lower level of security, such as Google Play, since, in some cases, like this one we have, hosted applications they can be infected by malware that practically disable your mobile phone.

This is what the researchers of the company CheckPoint have discovered: 206 applications that had more than half a million downloads in many cases and whose code had been infected to introduce malware into your mobile phone. In this way, and although the installed application was closed, annoying advertising screens could still appear.

In addition, these applications also had the ability to make a browser open a URL chosen by the attacker and take it to a phishing website; that is, to imitate a real website to, for example, enter the data. Being a fake website, the data ended up in the hands of cybercriminals.

They could also force the system to open Google Play applications by searching for specific keywords. In this way, these applications gained visualizations and, in the medium term, new downloads.

All these infected applications used a software called RXDrioder and all of them have been called by CheckPoint as 'SimBad', due to the high number of applications that were affected and to which most of them were game simulators.
